S DARRELL JOHNSON JR.

We just finished discussing the fact that Florida State was able to flip the services of four-star defensive end Javion Hilson from the Alabama Crimson Tide to the Seminoles. Norvell and company certainly took advantage of legendary coach Nick Saban unexpectedly retired.

Florida State was in the driver's seat for acquiring the services of four-star safety Darrell "Duke" Johnson Jr. where they were even the crystal ball prediction leaders at one point.

However, his recruitment took a turn as the talented defender elected to pledge to the Alabama Crimson Tide and the new coaching staff under the guidance of head football coach Kalen DeBoer. It was a bit disheartening given that DeBoer and company just arrived in Tuscaloosa.

Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. certainly needs more safeties in their rotation after former five-star safety KJ Bolden flipped his commitment from Florida State to Georgia on Signing Day last recruiting cycle. This needs to be a statement set by the program in this recruitment.

If Johnson Jr. does not cancel his official visit to Florida State with the recent commitment, he will take a trip to Tallahassee on the weekend of June 14th.
