FSU football has already seen the dividends of hiring defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. to the coaching staff. His ability to connect with recruits, especially in the South Florida region, seems to be something that stands out the most.
Surtain Sr. had a successful 2024 recruiting class where he signed four-star defensive backs Charles Lester III, Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, and Ricky Knight III. While I realize that fans will point to the miss of five-star KJ Bolden (who signed with Georgia), he did acquire talented pieces for the future of the secondary.
On Thursday afternoon, head football coach Mike Norvell and linebackers coach Randy Shannon decided to re-offer Class of 2025 Maryland four-star cornerback commit Jett White from Edison High School in Miami (FL).
The Edison High School standout also stated in the post on social media that he will be officially visiting Florida State on June 14th. I was surprised that the visit has already been scheduled considering that we are still in January.
While I know that the Seminoles are heavily involved with defensive back prospects such as four-star Gregory "Zae" Thomas, four-star Chris Ewald, four-star Antonio Branch Jr., and four-star Darrell Johnson, Florida State's defensive scheme involves utilizing several defensive backs in the rotation.
White could be a piece that the Seminoles could continue to keep warm as the recruiting board continues to expand as we get closer to the Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase in April. The talented defender has been committed to the Terrapins since January 6th so the pledge is relatively fresh.
While Florida State has not acquired a defensive back commitment during the 2025 recruiting cycle, I cannot wait to see what Surtain Sr. has in store. Jett White could be exactly what the Seminoles are looking for when it comes to grabbing yet another South Florida defender.
