Four-star DB target Gregory "Zae" Thomas trending to the Noles?
FSU football had several highly-touted prospects from the 2025 recruiting cycle come to Tallahassee for its Junior Day event this past weekend. One notable prospect that arrived on campus was four-star cornerback Gregory "Zae" Thomas from American Heritage High School in Plantation (FL).
Thomas has now received a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Florida State Seminoles from Noles247 Contributor Zach Blostein. We at ChopChat have decided to conduct a Q&A with the talented defensive back.
Q: What was it like visiting Florida State for their Junior Day event this past weekend?
A: "It was great visiting like always. The staff and coaches always treat me like family and make me feel at home."
Q: What inspired you to play the game of football?
A: "When I was 6, I was very sick in the hospital and that year Clemson was in the Orange Bowl. All of the players came by the hospital and hung out with the kids and stuff. As soon as I got out of hospital, I told my dad that I wanted to play football."
Q: What was it like receiving an offer from Florida State?
A: "It was a great experience. My entire family loves FSU so it was great and everyone was happy."
Q: As you know the defensive backs coach is Patrick Surtain Sr., who previously coached at American Heritage. What is your relationship like with him?
A: My relationship with Coach Pat is great. He was my head coach at American Heritage and I can remember my freshman year when I was going in the coach's office and just talking with him and even before I was in high school, I knew Coach Pat."
Q: What position is Florida State recruiting you as?
A: "FSU is recruiting me as a DB. They believe that I can play any position in the secondary, but if I want to be a boundary corner then they feel I can do that also."
Q: Does proximity to home matter in your recruitment? What aspects do you value when picking the school of your choice?
A: "I don't think proximity from home plays too big of a role but it's something that I may think about. Things like the relationship with coaches, how I will continue to get developed, and the overall atmosphere of the area are some important things."
Q: With the visit for Florida State over now, do you have any plans to come back in the near future to Tallahassee?
A: "I do plan to come back to Tally. Not 100% sure when but I definitely would love to get back up."
