New angle of Duce Robinson's 42-yard Florida State TD is simply unreal

Duce Robinson had himself a half. We knew FSU was going to run it up in poor East Texas A&M and Robinson decided to single-handedly make a statement with two touchdown catches.

The first one was a beautiful 82-yard bomb off of playaction. But the second touchdown showed Robinson using his massive 6-foot-6, 220-pound frame to bully around the defensive back to create space. The cornerback from East Texas A&M (fka Texas A&M-Commerce) was flagged for pass interference, but that didn't matter.

A record-setting performance?

Robinson hauled in two touchdowns from Tommy Castellanos in the first quarter and through a half, the USC transfer has 173 yards on five catches. The single-game receiving record at FSU is 260 yards by legendary Seminole Ron Sellers. Sellers had 260 yards and five touchdowns against Wake Forest way back in 1960.

Robinson, a former five-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, started out his college career at USC and was one of the major acquisitions for FSU out of the transfer portal this offseason. He is a legacy player. Robinson's father, Dominic Robinson, was a five-star recruit for the Seminoles in the early 2000s. He is known for making the catch on the 4th-and-14 against Florida in 2003.

The younger Robinson could become the 9th player to record 200 receiving yards for FSU. The last player to do it was Johnny Willson, who had 202 yards in the 2022 Cheez-it Bowl against Oklahoma.

All that being said, it's unlikely Robinson will see the field for the rest of Saturday's game. FSU is up 49-0 at the half and most of the second and third-teamers are already racking up the snap count. But this is a footnote for the future. Robinson is a big-time player.
