FORMER FSU BASEBALL STANDOUT
I know that Florida State baseball was defeated by the Oregon State Beavers on the road in the Super Regionals, and it has been difficult to shake off being up by a score of 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs.
However, let's celebrate former Florida State infielder Cam Smith as he recorded his first career walk-off hit versus the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking of the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs (sorry, I know it is too soon...), Houston Astros right fielder Cam Smith delivered a game-winning walk-off single with a runner on first and third base versus the Twins in the bottom of the inning to give his squad the victory.
SMITH'S UP AND DOWN ROOKIE CAMPAIGN
The former Seminole slugger was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 2024 MLB Draft as the 14th overall pick. Smith had a productive 2024 campaign with Florida State, where he recorded a .387 batting average with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs.
However, his tenure with the Cubs was short, as he was traded to the Houston Astros along with right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski and third baseman Isaac Paredes for right fielder Kyle Tucker.
It looks like the Cubs could regret the decision as the Astros activated the rookie to the big leagues on March 6th. Given that he is a youngster, he is having a difficult time finding contact with the baseball in June, as he is recording a .216 batting average compared to the .307 average in May.
Nonetheless, it was positive to see that Smith did not waver in his confidence even though he was 0-for-3 heading into the at-bat in the bottom of the ninth inning.
