Florida State football is in the middle of the transfer portal window. The Seminoles have struggled on the gridiron, with only seven wins in the past two years. That will not cut it at a place like Florida State that is used to competing for championships.
However, that is the reality of the situation at this time for the program. The truth of the matter is that the coaching staff needs to continue stacking on talent within their roster. The wants by the fan base included quarterback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker.
However, the Seminoles have been acquiring talent at running back (nothing wrong with getting an above-average option from the SEC), tight end, and defensive back.
Why does Florida State go after positions that are taken care of?
This becomes frustrating when individuals see where the problem is, and they choose to prioritize positions that are considered solid. For example, Florida State just grabbed Texas running back transfer Tre Wisner in the portal. He had over 1,600 yards over the past two years in the SEC.
Then, Florida's Treyaun Webb visits campus on Thursday, and it becomes a point where fans wonder what the coaching staff is doing because they have options: Ousmane Kromah, Sam Singleton Jr., and Amari Thomas on the roster. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn already discussed this offseason how he had a committee approach and wanted a workhorse.
It is also a head-scratcher that Florida State isn't trying to get a dominant pass rusher, especially with Mandrell and Darryll Desir entering the transfer portal. If the negotiations don't go well (or even if they do), why aren't the Seminoles getting involved with productive transfers?
The fan base might get sick of talking about linebackers because it feels like we have had many discussions about the position over the years. Hopefully, position coach Ernie Sims can get the most out of them, but they need talent in the room if they want the defense to be competitive.
Overall, the program is still going after running backs and tight ends when there are other pressing needs. This is concerning to a fan base that is starving to win and win now.
