Mike Norvell's inconsistency is what's driving FSU fans crazy

Consistently inconsistent would be the best way to describe the FSU football program under Mike Norvell. In week one, they had everyone believing they were one of the best teams in college football, and a few weeks later, they looked like a completely different team against Virginia.

Either the defense could never get stops, or the offense couldn’t score two touchdowns, or special teams would look like a mess.

Mike Norvell's football teams seem to struggle to get on the same page and play together as a cohesive unit. It’s one of the main reasons they lose, and why FSU fans wanted him fired after the loss to Stanford, and definitely after the loss to NC State.

It’s so far gone that fans have lost faith that he’ll turn it around due to the inconsistencies. Check out some of the responses on social media after the news broke that FSU would retain him for 2026:

Now, “Kodagreat” was probably using SOME hyperbole with that statement, but it gets to one of the root issues with FSU. We have no idea which FSU will show up. Most folks thought NC State would score at will and that FSU would score 30+ points on NC State. The FSU defense played well for the most part, and the FSU offense no-showed. The defense played decently against Clemson, and the offense disappeared.

Earlier in the year, the defense couldn’t get stops against Pittsburgh or Virginia. Special teams have been hit or miss all season. It’s not a talent issue, either. That’s the maddening thing, the players are usually in a position to make plays, but don’t when it matters, and all of that falls on the coaching staff and Mike Norvell.

IF FSU starts the season well next season, the fan base will be waiting to see when it’ll fall apart again, just like this season, because they don’t trust Mike Norvell.
