The one thing that Mike Norvell's FSU squads have generally steered clear of is too much time in the police blotter, but it happens and, in the case of Conor McAneney, it doesn't look good.

McAneney, a sophomore kicker who transferred to FSU from Quincy University, was arrested in South Florida on Wednesday with charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Over Norvell's six-plus years there haven't been too many incidents like this, especially compared to the years before he arrived. Shyheim Brown was suspended for the Memphis game in 2024 after he was arrested for DUI over that summer and last year Ricky Knight III was suspended for off-field incidents, but he has returned to the team and is listed on the current roster.

McAneney was a late transfer portal add as the staff brought in the kicker from the Division II program to compete with another transfer, Gabe Panikowski, who came to Tallahassee from Oklahoma State and was a FCS All-American at Idaho State in 2024.

Originally from Plumbridge in the Tyrone County of Northern Ireland, McAneney was 7-of-10 on field goals, but where his value with the Seminoles might be greatest is by handling kickoffs. The Seminoles will have a completely new group of kicking specialists after Jake Weinberg transferred to Miami and punter Mac Chiumento transferred to Texas.

There's no additional word  on McAneney's status with the team as this news is still breaking and will likely have to go through the legal process before Norvell is forced to make a decision. The charge of battery on a law enforcement officer never sounds good, but the details are still coming out,  and we don't know exactly what happened or the environment in which it took place.

FSU is on spring break this week and no practices are scheduled, so it's unlikely we will hear any further word from Norvell until next week at the earliest.
