D.J. Hunter backed away from his commitment to Kentucky earlier today and Florida State is one fo the schools that the Buford, Georgia prospect is showing interest in.
Quarterback is a major position of need for Florida State in the 2027 class and Mike Norvell is trying to cast a wide net in hopes of landing an arm to add to the room before the options begin to come off the board.

"I would say some schools that stand out to me are USF, Maryland, West Virginia, Florida State and Duke," Hunter told Chad Simmons. He also mentioned other programs, like Virginia Tech, that could also emerge.
FSU will try to get back in the mix for QB DJ Hunter
Norvell is trying to work several different angles to land a quarterback. He has pressed Texas A&M commit Jayce Johnson in hopes of getting an official visit and four-star prospect Israel Abrams said he'll take an official to Tallahassee in mid-June.
There's been so much happening at FSU with the retirement of Gus Malzahn and several other changes on the coaching staff and in the front office, that Norvell and company still seem to be trying to get their footing on recruiting for the 2027 cycle. While we're still 10 months away from the primary signing period, time moves quickly and spring camp starts shortly. The main recruiting is done in the summer now.
The good news is situations like Hunter's decommitment present FSU with new opportunities. A player that committed one day is wide open on the next. Hunter had been committed to Kentucky for nearly a year, but the writing was on the wall after the Wildcats dismissed Mark Stoops and hired Will Stein to run the program.
And, as is the situation with Johnson, FSU needs to re-establish itself as a force to deal with in some areas where the Seminoles have traditionally had success. That includes the Atlanta metro area and places like Buford, which is located in Gwinnett County. Hunter is there for the taking, Norvell just has to reel him in.Â
