Florida State football did not have the season that it wanted in 2025, as it limped to the finish line with a 5-7 record. The year started with so much promise, as the Seminoles defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 1.
The whole 2025 campaign as a whole has been all over the place. When the matchup concluded on August 30th in Doak Campbell Stadium, there were individuals across the country that thought Florida State were serious College Football Playoff contenders.
There were also another population that didn't believe the loss should define Alabama. The latter thought remained true, as the Crimson Tide reached the College Football Playoffs. While the Seminoles are treading water once again for the fourth time in six years.
Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis meant a lot to this university, as he suffered the heartbreaking injury in 2023 against North Alabama that ultimately left the Seminoles out of the College Football Playoffs in favor of one-loss Alabama.
Coach Norvell has been scrutinized for his ability to win football games without Travis as the signal-caller. That could be said across the country for many coaches that have been successful with can't-miss talent.
Norvell went on Travis's podcast "Travis Take Two" and he mentioned that he was "disappointed but not defeated".

The Seminoles have been heartbreak throughout the last two seasons. This squad had so much confidence in itself during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and they have to get back to that mindset.
However, when failures occur, Florida State can choose to respond to the adversity or fall back into the mindset of disappointment. Norvell makes a good point in the podcast, where there are plenty of people that praise the team when they find success.
The adversity has hit the Seminoles' program, where 2026 will be a defining moment in the Norvell era. Former quarterback Jordan Travis knows better than anyone what it feels like to respond to losing and turning it into a success story.
This is a moment where we at ChopChat want to see Mike Norvell and the Seminoles be successful, but everyone knows that this is a season that Mike Norvell has to have.
