FSU FOOTBALL FALL CAMP
Florida State football is entering fall camp season as the Seminoles take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th, in the season opener. It can't be much worse than 2-10 last year. Some fans checked out last year, so, understandably, the energy was at an all-time low.
The fan base wants to see the players perform in high-stakes situations. The Seminoles did not do that well last year, so a reset button had to be pressed with the acquisition of new coaches on its staff and new players on the roster.
Fall camp is an opportunity for those players to emerge and find their purpose on the squad. The biggest talking point in the depth chart and who could make plays for the Alabama season opener and beyond.
NEW STARTING WIDE RECEIVERS?
Head football coach Mike Norvell might have hinted at who the starting wide receivers were when he was asked on Monday afternoon about who the best pass catcher has been in fall camp when making this statement:
"I think guys have shown up. I have really been pleased with what Duce (Robinson) has shown, Squirrel (White) has been exciting, and I think Boggs (Jayvan) is coming along, where he is showing some good traits. Lawayne (McCoy) had a couple of big catches yesterday. It's an exciting group. It's just the consistency that I want from that. There have been dominant moments. "
This quote foreshadows who the starting wide receivers could be in the offense. Duce Robinson and Squirrel White are musts with them being veterans and bringing them in via the transfer portal. Plus, former four-star Jayvan Boggs is someone that the coaching staff might not be able to ignore.
Florida State has had true freshmen that they thought could deliver in Year 1 recently, such as Vanderius Jacobs and Hykeem Williams (and even Lawayne McCoy, if you want to count his role in 2024). However, Boggs has proven time and time again that he is a playmaker with the football in his hands. He has over 4,000+ yards and 45 touchdowns in his last two seasons with Cocoa.
If the starting wide receiver lineup consists of Duce Robinson, Squirrel White, Jayvan Boggs, and Lawayne McCoy, that could be a really exciting group that position coach Tim Harris is trotting out there.
