Florida State football is coming off its Spring Break to focus on practices again. This is an important time for the squad to gel together. There won't be a spring game this year to craft their skills as fans watch on, but the depth charts are starting to form behind the scenes.
As in many previous seasons, Florida State turned to the high school recruiting ranks and the transfer portal to overhaul its roster. It is the way of today's college football. The average fan won't recognize the majority of the roster when the Seminoles take on New Mexico State on Saturday, August 29th.
With spring practices resuming shortly, here are players the staff hopes will push for starting opportunities in the near future.
QB Kevin Sperry
Florida State has a battle going on between Auburn transfer Ashton Daniels and redshirt freshman Kevin Sperry. It looks like Daniels is starting to hold the advantage. The problem is that the Seminoles have constantly tried to rely on the portal for a signal-caller instead of developing in-house. Sperry was a former four-star prospect who has the talent, but can he put it all together?
RB Ousmane Kromah
Florida State added Texas transfer Tre Wisner to an already crowded running back room of Ousmane Kromah and Sam Singleton Jr. The fanbase was ecstatic when the Seminoles landed Kromah from the 2025 cycle away from the likes of Georgia and Auburn. They are likely paying him top dollar and need to start running the offense through.
TE Chase Loftin
Former four-star Chase Loftin was someone that head coach Mike Norvell referred to as being a top target for them in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Unfortunately, Loftin got injured last season, so we didn't see him much. However, the staff had him listed as a wide receiver last year, and now he is back at tight end. Florida State has to find a way to use the 6'6" mismatch against opposing defenses.
WR Devin Carter
Florida State brought back the likes of wide receivers Duce Robinson, Micahi Danzy, and Jayvan Boggs this offseason. Whoever the quarterback is, they will be enjoying throwing to those playmakers. One name that has gotten attention this spring has been true freshman pass catcher Devin Carter. The former four-star prospect is a legacy player who is hungry for opportunities. The staff would like to see him develop and be a household name in 2027.
CB Chuck Kennon
Florida State fans have been asking why Charles Lester III hasn't been on the field. This has been a common theme for defensive backs. While the position group hasn't been a major issue in terms of a major problem, the talented youngsters have been spending their time on the bench. One player that has shown promise this spring has been true freshman Chuck Kennon, who was the Seminoles' highest-rated prospect in the 2026 cycle. Kennon needs to find a way to see the field this year.
