Florida State football has only been able to secure six commitments in its 2027 recruiting class. The Seminoles are currently ranked as the 18th-best recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. That isn’t the expectation for the fan base that wants to see Florida State secure a top-ten recruiting class.

That is a difficult feat to accomplish with the program after having six losing seasons in the last eight years. With that said, the administration must have felt some level of confidence in Mike Norvell after retaining him for 2026.

There is a missing piece with Florida State’s recruiting class, and that is the fact that they don’t have a quarterback in the fold.

Florida State might be in trouble with getting talented quarterback Champ Monds IV

Longtime quarterback target Wonderful “Champ” Monds IV from Vero Beach, Florida, is someone that the staff has been on for a long time. However, Monds IV has competition within his recruitment as teams such as Ohio State and Notre Dame are involved.

The Buckeyes have a quarterback in their class already with four-star Brady Edmunds. However, On3’s Steve Wiltfong mentioned in a recent episode of the Wiltfong Whiparound that the Fighting Irish are a dark horse in his recruitment.

Notre Dame has only offered four quarterbacks in the 2027 cycle with four-star prospects Peyton Houston, Davin Davidson, Kamden Lopati, and Wonderful Monds IV.

Peyton Houston (LSU), Davin Davidson (Florida), and Kamden Lopati (Illinois) are already committed to other schools, so they could be difficult to grab. If Florida State were to strike out on Monds, I believe that they will go full-press on three-star Logan Flaherty from Port Charlotte, Florida.

The Seminoles should have quarterbacks in the rotation for the 2027 season, such as Kevin Sperry, Malachi Marshall, and Jaden O'Neal, so Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV will be a good addition for the position group.
