The dominoes for the top 2027 quarterback recruits have started to fall, and Florida State coaches are still looking for a 2027 quarterback commit. They’ve gotten several blue-chip caliber quarterbacks on campus over the past year, including several this spring.

The one quarterback they had set for an official visit (Israel Abrams) committed to the rival Miami Hurricanes recently and likely won’t take that official visit. Miami also took a 2028 quarterback commit a couple of days ago.

The rival Florida Gators took a commitment from a blue-chip prospect within the last week, and Notre Dame already has a blue-chip quarterback committed for 2027.

One 2027 QB recruit who Florida State has been heavily involved with is four-star Wonderful “Champ” Monds, who was on campus late last month. I’ve mentioned these other schools because they were part of his final five and schools he planned to visit this spring. He has visited Florida and FSU.

High school QB recruiting isn't as important as it used to be with the transfer portal, but FSU needs to take one and Monds could be the guy.

The one school I haven’t mentioned yet is Ohio State University. Monds visited there and had planned to visit Miami and Notre Dame, but we’ll see if those visits happen after Miami took recent commitments, and Notre Dame already has a commit.

Ohio State is recruiting other blue-chip guys like Florida State, but could sign two quarterbacks, and that’s something Monds said he didn’t mind. However, that should be something FSU uses in their favor since they’ll likely only take one quarterback this cycle. When’s the last time a program signed two quarterbacks and both stayed or got to play? It’s a new day and age, and FSU needs to go all in on Monds if that’s the guy they want.
