Florida State football had to overhaul its roster yet again via the transfer portal and high school recruiting ranks. This is the landscape of college football nowadays, where the fan base has to learn a large majority of the team again.
The more difficult part is that head coach Mike Norvell is considered on the hot seat by a variety of analysts. However, Coach Norvell is going to be afforded every opportunity to turn this around with the play-calling responsibility.
The offense will generate a large discussion because they will be welcoming in a new quarterback this season for a third straight year. However, defensive coordinator Tony White and his unit doesn't get enough love.
Florida State is excited about Texas A&M defensive end transfer Rylan Kennedy
The Seminoles' defense underwhelmed in the season finale against the arch-rival Florida Gators to eliminate Florida State from bowl contention. Running back Jadan Baugh had a field day against them where he recorded over 200 rushing yards.
The defensive line didn't perform up to the standard, except for the Desir Twins. Florida State added Nick Williams as the defensive end coach. Williams is considered a young and energetic mind who recruits at a high level.
The Seminoles acquired eight defensive line recruits in the 2026 recruiting class, an improvement over the number of players they brought in on the line. Florida State only added Texas A&M defensive end transfer Rylan Kennedy via the portal.
Kennedy had 14 tackles (3.5 for loss) and two sacks in 2025 with the Aggies. These statistics might not jump off the page, but the pass rusher has only played football since his senior year of high school.

According to Florida State General John Garrett, Kennedy is someone they are high on. As we saw against Alabama in the season opener, there needs to be pressure applied to the opposing quarterbacks.
