Mike Norvell adds Notre Dame transfer in new Florida State portal move

This is an intriguing move by the Seminoles' football coaching staff.

Florida State football is getting more talent for its roster during the transfer portal window. The 2026 season will have many players that the Seminole fan base doesn't recognize. However, that is the nature of the college football landscape nowadays.

The transfer portal has taken hold of the sport, where players flip through schools all the time. At one point, head football coach Mike Norvell was considered one of the better transfer portal evaluators of talent. However, most coaches have caught on to his strategy.

The Seminoles have landed several prospects that were important to the team's success, and even had a current wide receiver, Micahi Danzy, who announced that he would be returning for the 2026 season.

Another defensive back joins the Seminoles from the portal

Florida State has grabbed transfers that could be beneficial, but there are times when I feel the Seminoles acquire talent that isn't needed, such as running back, tight end, and defensive back.

Florida State should have come into this transfer portal window with entertaining the idea of picking up a quarterback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. The Seminoles did grab a signal-caller and five players to protect him, but there haven't been many on the defensive line (other than Texas A&M's Rylan Kennedy) or linebacker.

This is disappointing to see, and that trend continues to happen as Florida State added Notre Dame defensive back transfer Karson Hobbs on Friday afternoon.

Hobbs didn't have much proven production with the Fighting Irish, but at least he has two years of eligibility remaining. The Seminoles already added South Alabama cornerback Nehemiah Chandler from the transfer portal, so some fans ask why the coaching staff went out and brought in Hobbs.

It could be that true freshman defensive back Shamar Arnoux entered the transfer portal earlier in the day, and maybe it was an unexpected hit to the secondary where they thought that they had to go out and get another guy with Earl Little Jr., Edwin Joseph, and Cai Bates also in the portal.
