Florida State's coaching staff is trying its best to showcase itself to several 2027 prospects who visit the campus. This is the time to put their best foot forward in terms of building relationships. The Seminoles had a solid 2026 high school recruiting class, but it could have been better.
Fans have already noticed that the program is making moves on a couple of highly-touted prospects, but it is all about finishing the job in this business. High school recruiting can be difficult, and Florida State has to find a way to maximize its product on the field.
Head football coach Mike Norvell received criticism from the fan base after finishing with a 5-7 record. Obviously, that isn't the standard of a program that is used to competing for championships. However, that is the reality that they are in.
Arch-rival Miami Hurricanes are making another move for four-star safety commit Mekhi Williams
Florida State didn't have the season that it wanted to achieve in 2025. To make matters worse, their arch-rival Miami Hurricanes made a deep College Football Playoff run and almost upset the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers.
Seminole fans joke all the time about the Hurricanes not winning the conference since being in the ACC since the early 2000s. However, the joke is on Florida State, as they still made it possible to be successful in the playoffs.
It was only a matter of time before Miami came calling for Florida State's commitments, and the Hurricanes have now expressed heavy interest in Class of 2027 four-star safety commit Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida.

Miami already visited Williams once earlier this month, but now they have applied even more pressure. To be honest, if I were a Florida State commit, you couldn't catch me dead striking "The U" hand signal in a photo, even if I was from Miami. However, I know that high school recruits are a world of their own.
This appears to be a recruit that Florida State could lose, especially considering the Seminoles no longer have Patrick Surtain Sr. on their coaching staff. With that said, if Williams is considering an option to flip, he could do it now and save the fan base from heartbreak later.
