Florida State's newest offer for this defender could be a game-changer for 2027

This is an offer that I can get behind.

Florida State is working on bringing in talented prospects for the 2027 cycle through Junior Day events on campus. This is an opportunity for the coaching staff to build necessary relationships to acquire highly-touted recruits.

The Seminoles have struggled on the gridiron over the past two seasons, accumulating only seven wins. However, the administration has expressed confidence in head coach Mike Norvell, as they announced that they would be retaining him for the 2026 season.

This isn't to say that Coach Norvell would be automatically safe in 2027 when these prospects arrive, but this could be a great opportunity for him to showcase his team in a positive light.

Assistant coach Ernie Sims offers in-state linebacker prospect Tripp Keller

I understand that the fan base doesn't care about the 2027 cycle until we reach the Early Signing Period, but some recruits commit early and never flip (remember four-star safety Darryl "Tre" Bell III from the 2026 class).

It is important to build connections with prospects now, so that there won't be a back-and-forth. There was a time when the Seminoles obtained four-star linebacker Izayia Williams after he had de-committed and recommitted to a variety of schools, and fans thought that it was just a matter of time before he flipped from Florida State. However, he stayed the course and signed with the Seminoles.

Position coach Ernie Sims was elevated to linebackers coach this offseason, and he has a talented group to work with. Former Southern Miss linebacker transfer Chris Jones is expected to be a productive starter, while Izayia Williams is a true freshman who could have significant snaps (if he is healthy).

The grind never stops with grabbing talented prospects at the position. However, Florida State recently offered Class of 2027 three-star linebacker Tripper Keller from Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida.

Keller is listed at 6'3" and 200 pounds. According to MaxPreps, the linebacker had 90 tackles (14 for loss), and three interceptions during the 2025 season. The Miami Hurricanes recently visited him at his high school, but he did attend the Seminoles' matchup against East Texas A&M last year.

Historically, it has been difficult at times for Florida State to land prospects from Tampa and Jacksonville, but my hope is that the narrative changes for this one.
