Johnny Wilson might finally have a path to see the field regularly in Philadelphia.
Wilson, who was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has not had many opportunities to prove himself in the league and there were even rumblings that he should try to switch positions to tight end in hopes of better results.Â
But there might be some light at the end of the tunnel if the Eagles trade mercurial wide receiver A.J. Brown during or after the draft. There are rumors that if Brown goes to the Patriots as predicted, it would be in a post-draft trade in June, but the fact that Brown doesn't appear to be in the Eagles' plans for 2026 should open the door for Wilson to get an extended look during training camp and in the preseason.
The Eagles remain open to trading AJ Brown, the Patriots remain highly interested in acquiring the star receiver, and conversations are expected to resume shortly on or before June 1, likely culminating in a deal, per league sources.

AJ Brown trade could mean new opportunity for Johnny Wilson
We've already talked at length about Keon Coleman's issues in Buffalo and the possibility that the former FSU wide receiver is shipped to a new destination in a few days. But Coleman has been getting plenty of run with the Bills. Wilson, on the other hand, has basically spent the first two years inactive or on the injured list.Â
Last year, Wilson had a pretty good start to the preseason and looked like maybe he could get some balls thrown his way, but he suffered knee and ankle injuries during a practice that forced him to miss the season.

Wilson is a unique player that brings a lot of physical presence to the table. He measures over 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds. Wilson isn't a burner, but his 4.52 speed from the NFL Combine shows that he can at least move a little bit. Jalen Hurts is a solid quarterback that has a Super Bowl MVP to his name, but he could probably use a big target that might not be as demanding of the football as Brown is.Â
It's hard to predict what's next for Wilson, but being in a wide receiver room without Brown will probably help him stand out a little more. There's still plenty of work to do and Wilson has to stay healthy and motivated for anything to materialize, but the opening could be there for him.Â
