It must be something with the bigger former FSU wide receivers who were standouts in college. Former FSU player Kelvin Benjamin missed his sophomore season with an injury after a standout rookie year with the Carolina Panthers.

Former FSU receiver Johnny Wilson wasn’t a first-round draft pick like Benjamin, and he didn’t have a ton of production, but he suffered an injury recently that will cost him his sophomore season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wilson won a Super Bowl in his rookie year with the Eagles and had five receptions for 38 yards and one touchdown in 2024. The former sixth-round selection appeared in 16 games for the Eagles last season.

Wilson flashed in an earlier preseason game with three receptions for 73 yards. This injury news comes at a terrible time, with the beginning of the season on the horizon. An ankle injury that requires surgery for a guy who’s 6’6” and 230 pounds isn’t ideal. I hope he can fully recover and not lose his job due to the injury.

The aforementioned Benjamin never quite achieved the level he had in his first season with the Carolina Panthers. However, he always struggled with motivation and the desire to play. That was never the case with Wilson while at FSU. If he does lose his job, it could be a blessing in disguise with another team willing to take a chance on him.

Wilson has great potential when he’s used in the right manner, but I’m not sure the Eagles ever saw him more than a blocking wide receiver(something he’s elite at). He has had issues consistently catching the ball, but he could be a real weapon for a team if he could put it together like his final year at FSU. Here's to hoping he recovers nicely and finds his way back.
