Florida State softball was cruising through the ACC, winners of 25 straight games, and it looked like winning another ACC regular-season title was a foregone conclusion. However, a road series sweep at the hands of Stanford put the Noles in second place behind the Duke Blue Devils.

The series loss meant Florida State would have to sweep North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Boston College, plus need Duke to lose a game somewhere to win the ACC regular-season title and secure the No. 1 overall seed in the ACC Tournament.

FSU took care of business against North Carolina and Georgia Tech, while Duke lost the game they needed to lose against Clemson last week. All Florida State needed to do was sweep a bad Boston College team, and they’d secure the ACC title and No. 1 overall seed in the ACC Tournament.

FSU beat Boston College handily in all three games, outscoring them 26-0.

It was a fine season for the Noles, but admittedly, they drew the easier part of the ACC schedule. They didn’t have to face Duke, Virginia Tech, or Louisville in the regular season. However, they’ll likely face at least one of those teams in the ACC Tournament, which could help their RPI in seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

It was an incredible season for Isa Torres, who finished the regular season with a .548 average, shattering her FSU record from a year ago. She hit 16 home runs, had 85 hits, and went the entire season without committing an error.

Jaysoni Beachum finished the season red hot, batting .392, with eight home runs and a team leading 59 RBI. Ashtyn Danley, Marin Heller, Bella Ruggerio, and Anna Hinde finished the season batting well over .300.

FSU’s pitching staff looked like they started to lock in since the Stanford series. They have two excellent starters and likely two more pitchers who can get outs in short stints (Bella Dimitrijevic and Makenna Reid). Their RPI was No. 13 going into Sunday’s game, but winning the ACC Tournament could help their cause.

They will play the winner of the Notre Dame/Georgia Tech game on Thursday at 11 a.m. on the ACC Network.
