Florida State basketball coach Luke Loucks knew that he had himself a big offseason in front of him for the Seminoles. Florida State seemed to be reeling after their blowout home loss to North Carolina State, but they were able to rebound nicely, winning 11 of their last 15 games to finish with an 18-14 overall record.
Obviously, that isn't where Coach Loucks wants this program. The former point guard wants his squad to be in the NCAA Tournament every year. The conference is highlighted by the general public of teams such as Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia because they pour in resources. However, Florida State wants to start joining the party and making a name for itself.
The Seminoles need to start acquiring talent to its roster via the high school recruiting ranks and transfer portal. Coach Loucks did finish with a top-ten recruiting class this past cycle, and already landed transfers such as Shon Abaev (Cincinnati), Anthony Robinson II (Missouri), and Kameron Taylor (UNC Asheville).
Florida State lands Colorado forward Sebastian Rancik over Kentucky
I just talked about how teams like Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia were spending resources on their program within the conference. There are plenty of other places across the country that are doing the same thing. One team that has been known to do that is Kentucky.
Unfortunately, Florida State and Kentucky were going head-to-head to acquire the services of Colorado forward Sebastian Rancik, who had 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game during the 2025 season (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
Florida State won out on Rancik's recruitment, as he committed to the Seminoles over Kentucky on Sunday morning.

Rancik is a 6'11" and 220-pound forward who can shoot perimeter shots and can complement the inside presence of true freshman big man Marcis Ponder. This was a big grab for Luke Loucks in the transfer portal, as he wrestled him away from the Kentucky Wildcats.
