HIGH SCHOOL RECRUITING HAS BEEN AN ISSUE
As Florida State football fans know, the recruiting efforts have been as high yet with the new coaching staff, as they only have nine commits to the 2026 recruiting cycle.
One of the biggest complaints during head football coach Mike Norvell's era at Florida State has been the way that he emphasizes high school recruiting. Many individuals know that he has done good work in the transfer portal (shield your eyes from the 2024 season), but it has been lackluster to build a foundation at the high school level.
They have made a few questionable decisions on the recruiting front with a few prospects, such as not hanging on to commits four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel and four-star wide receiver Devin Carter, as well as trending away from targets like four-star defensive end Cam Brooks and four-star defensive end Kamron Wilson.
I WAS RIGHT ABOUT WILSON
I don't like to brag, but I did foreshadow what was to come with the recruitment of four-star pass rusher Kamron Wilson. The Miami, Florida, native is currently committed to the Syracuse Orange, but the Seminoles' coaching staff is not ready to give up on the fight to acquire his services.
Wilson received a visit on Tuesday morning at his high school from a variety of coaches on the Seminoles' coaching staff, such as defensive coordinator Tony White, defensive line coach Terrance Knighton, linebackers coach John Papuchis, and safeties coach Evan Cooper.
THOUGHTS ON THE PURSUIT
This is very inspiring to see because the defensive end position needs to be a spot that the coaching staff continues to recruit at a high level. You can never have too many pass rushers. Typically, I don't want to see the staff put all of their eggs into one basket with a high school kid, but this is a recruitment that they need to see play out since Florida State still has the last official visit on June 20th.
Make no mistake about it, the defensive line target board needs to be expanded, but I think that Florida State needs to land Kamron Wilson and get him in the fold.
