Florida State has wanted to transform its offensive unit into something remarkable this upcoming season after having one of the worst in the country in 2024. The Seminoles went out and hired Gus Malzahn to be its next offensive coordinator.

Fans know that Malzahn wants to run the football where his UCF Knights had over 200+ rushing yards in 2024. There should be a ton of opportunities to run, complete screen passes, and have run-pass options if the chance presents itself.

However, former Boston College quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos will be tasked with getting the football out of his hands to his playmakers. As a result, Florida State added two wide receivers via the transfer portal in Duce Robinson and Squirrel White.

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of the Seminoles picking up another pass catcher. With that being said, I do like the weapons that they have on the roster. Will this roster of wide receivers be enough to win a national championship? I was always taught to never say that it could not happen as mysterious factors occur all the time.

However, it does seem unlikely to happen. Florida State looks hungry to avenge last season's results and have them be a thing of the past. The wide receivers will be the key to getting the offense turned around. While I mentioned that Malzahn's offense is predicated on the principle of running the football.

Malzahn will likely ask his wide receivers to block quite a bit as opposed to having multiple 100+ yard games. That isn't to say that the playmakers won't create plays on their own.

One name that I am excited about is Class of 2025 three-star JUCO wide receiver signee Jordan Scott. He was considered the second-best at his position. His catch radius, speed after the catch, and ability to be a serviceable route runner stand out on film.

Scott seems to be building a rapport with quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos as he has already conducted training with the wide receiver. Plus, being 6'7" and 215 pounds already gives him the advantage.

It is expected that Duce Robinson and Squirrel White will be the number one and two receivers. Then Scott could be the missing link that they have been desiring.
