Joshua Farmer should've stayed for another year after getting drafted in fourth round

ANOTHER NOLE DRAFTED

Florida State fans saw cornerback Azareye'h Thomas get drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was later than most individuals thought, as some mock drafts had him pegged in the late first round.

I guess that is a common theme in the NFL Draft, as the discussion for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders falling to the fourth round continues. However, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer finally heard his name on Saturday afternoon as the New England Patriots selected him with the 137th overall pick.

While I know that Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer isn't quite the talent of Sanders (maybe he is to a variety of NFL teams), the defender had a productive junior season in Tallahassee, where he recorded 32 tackles (eight for loss) and four sacks.

HIS TRANSFORMATION HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE

He has blossomed his frame as he is now listed at 6'3" and 305 pounds. His transformation has been fascinating to see. Farmer was able to play alongside his best friend and high school teammate (Darrell Jackson Jr.) last season. It could be that he wanted him to get shine in Tony White's defense, which was a multiple 3-3-5 defensive scheme.

Farmer had moments in 2024 where he played too high in his technique and was pushed off the line of scrimmage. However, if he perfects his craft, he could be a serviceable piece on an NFL roster.

LOSING HIS PARENTS AT AN EARLY AGE

Farmer was a bright spot in what was a dark season for the Seminoles last year. However, he felt the necessary move to go to the league. It should be noted that the defensive tackle lost his father at the age of two and his mother at the age of eleven. My heart still goes out to him and his loved ones.

That is a tough pill to swallow for anyone to have to deal with. Head football coach Mike Norvell talks all the time about responsibility to adversity. Farmer was a three-star prospect that Norvell acquired during the 2021 recruiting class, where he was listed at 6'3" and 250 pounds as a hybrid defensive end.
