Jimbo Fisher leaving bread crumbs about coaching again in interview done in Tallahassee

Would FSU entertain Jimbo again and vice versa??

Former FSU football head coach Jimbo Fisher has been quite visible in Tallahassee, more visible than usual, considering he stays in the same Tallahassee house he bought when he took the FSU offensive coordinator job when Bobby Bowden was the head coach.

Fisher has kept a relatively low profile since getting fired by Texas A&M nearly two years ago and receiving the largest buyout in college football history ($77.5 million).

Fisher said in a recent interview done in Tallahassee, “I never got into coaching for money,” he says. “Well, I’m not going to get out of it because I’ve got money.

Fisher agreed to speak with Yahoo Sports to discuss his desire to return as a head coach in college football. A few weeks ago, working as an analyst on the ACC Network, Fisher was openly emotional about his time coaching at FSU:

That appearance for the Miami game and this latest interview, coincidentally released a few days after FSU lost to Stanford for its fourth consecutive loss, seem coordinated to a degree.

Obviously, Fisher had no idea FSU would go on to lose two more games after the Miami loss. However, it’s almost like he was like just in case things start going sideways in Tallahassee, let me put this out there.

There are several head coaching job vacancies, but Fisher admitted on Freddie Stevenson’s podcast recently that he would only return to coaching at a place where he felt he could win a national championship. Well, of the current vacancies, none have won a national title in over 15 years. Fisher isn’t going to coach at Florida because he hates the Gators.

FSU is the only place that fits that bill, but they don’t have a coaching vacancy yet. However, there’s about a 99.9 percent chance they will have one in 5-6 weeks. Here’s what Fisher has been doing lately:

“But these days, more than anything perhaps, he’s watching film — both for his gig as an analyst on ACC Network and for his future. He’s studying the game’s ever-evolving trends, organizing a future staff, creating a recruiting and evaluation plan.”

That sounds like someone who has a solid idea of where he's going. Will it be Tallahassee? FSU has invested over $400 million dollars into the facilities that Jimbo Fisher was asking for near the time the two divorced in 2017. FSU has different leadership then back then, and there's a world where Jimbo Fisher could give FSU a hometown discount to coach, considering how much it's going to cost if and when they move on from Mike Norvell and his staff. He still has millions from Texas A&M and money wouldn't be the most important thing to him.

Second marriages rarely work, but Fisher could probably raise the floor at FSU in a short amount of time. Could he recapture his magic from 2010-2014? There's huge doubt he could do that. He wouldn't be at the top of my list, but there's a path that it could make sense from a financial standpoint.

A portion of fan base would take Jimbo back in a heartbeat, and others still hate how everything unfolded in the final year. There's enough blame to go around on both sides, but some former players want him back.

The next few weeks will be interesting and we might have to revisit this piece in a few weeks if Mike Norvell gets fired.
