Florida State football has been a laughingstock amongst individuals, as they have won a total of seven games throughout the last two seasons. The Seminoles were once championship contenders in 2023 and considered one of the most dangerous teams in the country.
Head coach Mike Norvell has been under a magnifying glass lately as his program continues to struggle. The administration decided to bring him back for the 2026 season, but after the Stanford loss, a large portion of the fan base thought his tenure was over.
Make no mistake about it, the victory against Alabama last year in the opener was fantastic, but Mike Norvell has left much to be desired lately. When things were cruising in 2023 for the Seminoles, one of the bigger supporters of his in On3's JD PicKell raved about him.

PicKell has unfortunately gone to the dark side and thinks that Mike Norvell is beyond prepared. He has turned into ESPN's Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy, where PicKell has mentioned negativity with everything revolving around Florida State. In the latest video, he highlights how horrible Norvell's contract is.
Let me refresh everyone's memory of it being the month of May. The topic of his contract is irrelevant, and it is just something to pass the time nowadays, as we are three months away from college football.
I never thought that we would get the day of PicKell being a villain in Mike Norvell's story. There were times when some of his sound clips from his video even made it to Florida State football's social media page when everything was going well in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles are now being scrutinized over a contract they gave Mike Norvell because he was in danger of leaving Florida State for Alabama after the 2023 season. The Seminoles didn't want to be known as pushovers and for letting one of the top teams in the big-bad SEC grab their coach.
All in all, PicKell was one of the ones praising the Seminoles for being able to retain Norvell and keeping him in-house that year. Just because the last two seasons have not panned out doesn't mean Florida State didn't make a good decision at the time by giving him the contract.
An argument can be made about the Seminoles' choice not to fire him after this season, but that was not what was being discussed in the video. All in all, I hope that Mike Norvell and his squad can turn it around in 2026 and prove all of his doubters wrong.
