It's going, it's going, it's gone for former Florida State baseball star Cam Smith

Florida State University has been devastated by the event that transpired on Thursday. All sporting events have been canceled for this weekend. There was a Gathering of Unity Virgil that was held on Friday, April 18th at 5 PM at the Unconquered Statue at Langford Green.

Sometimes it is much more than sports. My heart goes out to all of those individuals impacted, as some of their lives will be changed forever.

I know that it is difficult to find the sense of normalcy to discuss sports, but sometimes normalcy is what allows us to heal and focus on positive aspects in our lives, to block out emotions, to get away.

Florida State baseball is not having its weekend series with Virginia, but they have been on a tear this year, where they currently possess a 29-7 overall record. Head baseball coach Link Jarrett has this Seminoles squad hitting on all cylinders. The offense was thought to take a step back this year due to players such as James Tibbs III and Cam Smith departing for the MLB.

Smith was able to get the call-up to the majors this year with the Houston Astros. He has been an incredible asset for them thus far. The slugger has struggled to get much going at the plate, which is expected for a youngster, where he had a .216 batting average with one home run and six runs batted in April.

The former Seminole headed into a new series Friday night with the San Diego Padres, looking to get back on track.

The multi-home run game for Smith looks to have come out of nowhere for Astros fans since he has been struggling at the plate as of late. However, Florida State fans know that he can take it the distance, where he had 16 home runs and 57 runs batted in during his final season with the Seminoles in 2024.

Hopefully, this can give him the confidence that he needs to elevate him into the power hitter that the Astros desire in the lineup.
