The 2025 season was such a roller coaster ride of emotions for the Florida State football fan base. The year started with an upset victory over Alabama when individuals were rushing the field, but then the Seminoles lost seven of their last nine games to not make it to a bowl game.
It is truly astonishing how the squad crumbled so badly down the stretch. It was almost as if they and the Miami Hurricanes switched places because they always finish the year off horribly. However, their fan base is now laughing at Florida State after making it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Miami.
The administration announced that the Seminoles would retain head coach Mike Norvell for the 2026 season. This was not a decision that the fan base enjoyed. Many analysts out there have Coach Norvell as one of the individuals on the hot seat.
Head football coach Mike Norvell gets the opportunity to call plays in 2026
Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired this offseason, which allowed head coach Mike Norvell to have the play-calling responsibilities, and he promoted wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. to the offensive coordinator role (along with his current wide receivers position).
With the freedom to call plays, Norvell gets to control his own destiny. The 2024 campaign was atrocious with him behind the wheel, but that squad couldn't have won many more games even if they had one of the most innovative play-callers of all-time.
One of the more frustrating parts of the offense last season was that Florida State used too many running backs. They started with the transfer Gavin Sawchuk, then turned to Ousmane Kromah, and lastly decided on Samuel Singleton Jr.
This became a jumbled mess where the running backs couldn't find a rhythm in the offense. The coaching staff added Texas transfer Quintrevion Wisner this offseason, but don't look sight of former four-star Ousmane Kromah.
The talented 2025 prospect was someone that the Seminoles battled him away from the likes of Georgia and Auburn. Kromah likely cost them a pretty penny to come to Tallahassee. He only recorded 10+ carries in two games last season. That number needs to increase because he is one of the most talented pieces on Florida State's offense.
