When the name Isa Torres gets mentioned, the word ELITE immediately comes to mind. The junior Florida State shortstop had one of the best seasons on record in the field and in the batter's box.
A complete player, Torres batted .530, with 16 home runs and 56 RBI’s from the leadoff spot. She scored 78 runs and stole 13 bases, oh, and she missed eight games in the middle of the season!
Torres went the entire regular season without an error in the field and made only two errors all season, while playing one of the most active positions. She was a top-three finalist for USA Softball’s Player of the Year Award and went to the ceremony with Coach Lonni Alameda. Nebraska’s Jordy Frahm won that award, but Torres took home the Player of the Year Award from D1Softball on Wednesday:

It’s a well-deserved honor, and Florida State is a different team without Isa Torres in the lineup. She affects the game in every facet and has only gotten better each year she’s worn the garnet and gold.
There are rumors swirling about his future at Florida State, and it's great to see her hardwork pay off, despite Florida State getting eliminated in the Tallhassee Regional. That probably didn't help her cause in the USA Softball argument.
We'll have to see how it all shakes out, but Torres became a household name among college softball fans over the past two years while playing in Tallahassee. Florida State should be among the top programs nationally in 2027 with its best chance to compete for a Women's College World Series title since the 2023 season. I'm sure Florida State is doing all it can to secure her for her final year in Tallahassee.
They could return nearly every starter from this year's team, and will have one of the top recruiting classes arriving for 2027. It has some players that could make an impact like the freshman on this year's team did throughout the season. Nevertheless, congrats to Isa Torres on this great recognition for another great season.
