Junior Florida State shortstop Isa Torres just completed year three wearing the garnet and gold, and she’s easily already a top-five player in FSU history in my book. She has had an incredible career, improving each year on the next and breaking records in the process.
She was among the top three finalists for the NCAA Player of the Year, and could have won it had the Noles not been upset in the Tallahassee Regional by Stetson and UCF. Softball players from every conference and teams are announcing plans to enter the transfer portal. FSU has already had two from this year’s team to announce intentions, but the rumors surrounding one has every Florida State fan holding their breath it doesn’t happen.
It’s Isa Torres. She has not said anything about entering the transfer portal, but the rumors are floating that a certain team in Texas is trying to lure her away from Tallahassee.
If there’s any truth to the rumors, Florida State is doing everything possible to make it seem like it’s just rumors:

Coacha and Isa were in OKC tonight for the USA Softball Player of the Year banquet 🍢#Team43 pic.twitter.com/RVY9N5w9vC
If Isa Torres decides to leave(and she might not), the reaction from the fan base would probably be full crashout mode.

I know Isa Torres and her family love Florida State and Tallahassee. They love Coach Lonni Alameda, or else Isa’s father wouldn’t have posted this a few weeks ago:
Grateful for her and everything she’s done for my kid…winning and leading starts at the top and I can’t thank god enough for allowing our family to be part of your tribe

If Torres did entertain leaving Florida State, it would probably come down to more money and the opportunity to play in her home state of Texas. I have no idea what someone would offer her, but if they offered a million or more, and Florida State couldn’t come close to it? It would be hard to blame her, considering professional softball players don’t make a ton of money. However, if Florida State couldn’t come close to what’s being offered, what does that say about Florida State’s willingness to keep arguably the best player nationally, and someone they developed over the past three years at home?
It would be a gut-punch to the fan base, and the perception would be hard to overcome. It would be somewhat similar to Jordy (Bahl) Frahm leaving Oklahoma to go home to Nebraska. The only difference is that Oklahoma was winning national titles in back-to-back-to-back seasons. Florida State hasn’t won one since 2018, and hasn’t played for one since 2023.
Florida State seems to be doing what it can on social media to paint a certain picture with Isa and CoachA hanging out. Can they do the other work behind the scenes to make sure it stays that way? We’ll have to see how it plays out.
