FSU FOOTBALL VERSUS ALABAMA
We are less than 24 hours away from the Florida State Seminoles taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide at 3:30 PM EST in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium. Someone better bring their rain boots, as precipitation could be in the forecast.
This contest favors the Seminoles, who want to run the football with the new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn guiding the unit. Florida State added new running backs to the roster this offseason, such as former Oklahoma transfer Gavin Sawchuk and former four-star prospect Ousmane Kromah.
Coach Malzahn has already mentioned that the ball carriers standing out are Ousmane Kromah, Gavin Sawchuk, and Roydell Williams. I know that makes some fans cringe when they see Roydell Williams after the PTSD from the fumble versus Memphis last season.
However, it could be a smart move to rely on a veteran like Williams to carry the load for the Seminoles versus his former team. You hope that the adrenaline doesn't get to the back and causes him to do too much.
WELCOME TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL, OUSMANE!
While I am a fan of what the former Alabama transfer brings to the table, I know that the fan base is excited about true freshman phenom Ousmane Kromah. The Seminoles received stunning news during the Early Signing Period as Kromah chose Florida State over Georgia and Auburn.
The Georgia native rushed for 1,368 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior year of high school. I don't want to put the hype train on a youngster who just enrolled on campus during the summer, but the coaching staff and players on the team have raved about him all offseason.
I even compared the former Lee County High School standout to 2017 Cam Akers. During his true freshman campaign, Akers had 1,024 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Just like the former Florida State star, Kromah will likely be making his collegiate debut against the Crimson Tide.
Akers finished the Alabama season opener with ten carries for 30 yards, to go along with one reception for 11 yards. I could see a similar stat line with Kromah as he will be battling for opportunities between backs such as Roydell Williams, Gavin Sawchuk, Kam Davis, Samuel Singleton Jr., Caziah Holmes, and even Jaylin Lucas.
