Florida State football has had its struggles over the past two seasons, with only winning seven games. Head football coach Mike Norvell and his squad still have to collect pieces in the transfer portal window.
The Seminoles have positions that they will need to prioritize, such as quarterback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker. Florida State has had its hands in the signal-caller market with options like DJ Lagway, Anthony Colandrea, and Ashton Daniels.
One of the more polarizing pursuits is Lagway because he was a former quarterback with the arch-rival Florida Gators. Seminole fans can't stomach the fact to cheer on a Gator. Position coach Odell Haggins will be quick to snatch a Gatorade out of his hand if he tries something out of pocket.
In all seriousness, On3 reported that Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn saw a Cam Newton comparison to DJ Lagway.
NEW: DJ Lagway on 'cloud nine' after visiting FSU, seeing Cam Newton comparison from Seminoles OC Gus Malzahn👀

To give full transparency, Coach Malzahn said the same thing about former UCF quarterback KJ Jefferson, comparing him to Cam Newton. As a result, I don't buy the legitimacy of the similarities between the two.
However, the offensive coordinator has been around the collegiate game for a long time, and he knows what to look for in quarterbacks. Florida State certainly needs a life at signal-caller after the trials runs of DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos didn't pan out.
The unfortunate part about Lagway is that he was on "Cloud Nine" after visiting Florida State, but he didn't commit to the Seminoles, so how true was his statement? If I were on "Cloud Nine" on a visit, you would have seen me go to the midfield of Doak Campbell Stadium and scream "Go Noles!" where everyone in Tallahassee could hear me.
However, I know that today's landscape of college football is different nowadays, and Lagway wants to see all of his options, which includes a trip to Virginia after.
