Getting this prospect could change the narrative of recruiting for Mike Norvell

The Seminoles have to land this talented prospect.

Florida State football has not been in a great place during the tenure of head coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles have combined to have seven wins in the past two years. That is not the expectation for a program that wants to compete for championships.

The fan base wants production on the gridiron. The ACC Championship Game featured Duke and Virginia, which are two teams that have not had much success in the conference (unless we are discussing basketball).

The truth is that Florida State has a chance to compete at a high level. They have to have the correct mindset, and that involves acquiring the right talent for the roster. The Seminoles have relied on the transfer portal, but the great teams have spent resources on bringing in homegrown high school recruits.

Florida State looks to be trending well for five-star defensive end Asher Ghioto

Florida State has struggled as of late, bringing in talented prospects in the offensive and defensive trenches. This is a concerning trend since the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes thrive off of the position group and even make it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana.

The Seminoles are trying to make a push as the new defensive ends coach, Nick Williams, has already secured four-star pass rusher Anthony Cavallaro from Largo, Florida. The battle isn't won yet for Florida State, as they are looking to acquire more defensive linemen in the class.

One name to monitor is five-star defensive end Asher Ghioto from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. He is classified as a 2028 prospect, but there is a high likelihood that he could reclassify to the 2027 cycle.

Ghioto recently competed in the Under Armour Next Camp in Orlando, Florida, and was a consistent standout for the individuals who were in attendance.

Ghioto recorded 84 tackles (35 for loss) and 23 sacks during his 2025 sophomore season. The one school that I would pay close attention to in his recruitment is the arch-rival Florida Gators. They have the "car smell" of having first-year head coach Jon Sumrall, and the Gators seem to always get prospects out of Jacksonville.
