FSU surprisingly sticking with Mike Norvell till at least end of 2025 season

I can see why this happened but understand the frustration among the fan base.

FSU Athletic Director Michael Alford will stick with FSU football head coach Mike Norvell through the 2025 season. In short, the main money people when it comes to providing the money to pay the buyout were not comfortable with making the move.

Folks want to blame Michael Alford, but he can’t fire the head coach if folks aren’t willing to pony up for the buyout. It’s not the best look from a perception standpoint.

However, FSU has had some crazy expenses in the last two years. The ACC lawsuit, stadium renovations, and the Football-Only Facility.

Keeping Norvell allows them time to continue to assess the market and see who becomes available. It’s not like they won’t be doing some backchannel talking in the meantime.

It’s not like they can’t have already made a decision internally, and just letting this play out while they get their ducks in a row to figure out how they want to proceed.

It’s not like a new coach would start at FSU for the Wake Forest game if they fired Mike Norvell today or later this week.

However, the recent report about the players making jokes in the locker room after the Stanford loss will make the next few weeks interesting to say the least. It's clear Mike Norvell has lost this team and program. He looked like a dead-man walking in his post-game press conference.

They have another private school on the schedule that they have no business losing to in Wake Forest. A loss there is only going to create more toxicity among the fan base. They are through with Mike Norvell, and the home attendance numbers will likely reflect that on November 1st.

This is one of those situations where patience is key, but also understanding the frustration of the FSU fan base who want Mike Norvell gone.
