Mike Norvell is a genuine good guy. He has a great offensive mind, and some coaches who have coached for him have gone on to be good head coaches. He cares about his players, and that’s been evident in several situations during his time at FSU.
It’s evident that Mike Norvell doesn’t like losing, but some of the players on his team evidently don’t mind losing football games. A report from Chris Hummer at CBSSports said:
“Some believe Norvell's message is getting lost on his team. After the loss to Stanford, a source told CBS Sports that players were cracking jokes in the locker room about having to "respond" yet again. "Respond" is a common phrase for Norvell to his team as losses mount.”
Listen, the head coach can’t want to win more than the players. However, it’s on the head coach and his coaching staff to build the program culture in a way that losing or not doing your job isn’t tolerated.
That couldn’t have been more evident in the loss against Stanford on Saturday night. One FSU player made two massive mistakes, brushed off Mike Norvell on the sidelines, and was back in the game later that night.
It's not a player led team because it was were, the way they have played would have been called out by the leaders a long time ago.
There is no accountability, and that starts with Mike Norvell. The lack of accountability is what got Mike Norvell 2-10 last year. FSU was down a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and a player celebrated on the sidelines because they finally forced the Stanford offense to punt. This type of behavior used to be prevalent in the Willie Taggart days and early in the Norvell era.
That type of stuff eventually stopped as FSU became a player-led team in 2022 and 2023. However, that behavior began to rear its head again last year and over the past few games. It was something we noticed in the Pittsburgh game, too. Ultimately, it’s why Mike Norvell can no longer be the head coach at FSU, and it’s only a matter of time.
Pittsburgh made jokes about beating FSU, and the players didn’t seem to care about how they played against Stanford. Now, Stanford is making jokes about beating FSU.

Nothing says ACC football like FSU losing to a Stanford team without our starting QB, RB, OG, and CB. Before you talk shit make sure you can back it up. Get the fuck back to bum fuck Tallahassee. Poverty ass program. https://t.co/aDzdnttD3Q

Mike Norvell and FSU are the laughing stock of the ACC and it all falls on the shoulders of Mike Norvell.
