FSU softball (4-1) didn't have a great start to its 2025 season when they lost 9-6 against No. 4 Oklahoma State to open the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

However, their response was great, winning the next four games and avenging the loss with an 8-0 run-rule win over that same Oklahoma State team.

FSU defeated Northern Colorado 7-1, Louisiana Tech 6-3, and 9-1, before avenging Oklahoma State on Saturday night. It was a win FSU needed after beating itself for much of the season opener, and the game was as close as the 9-6 score.

However, FSU left no doubt by getting an early lead on the Cowgirls and never looking back. It's early in the season, and Coach Lonni Alameda will continue to see what combinations work the best on offense and inside the circle.

The offense has been a combination of different players and some of the usual suspects. However, Kennedy Harp has started the season blazing hot after a strong freshman year in limited action. Isa Torres, Jaysoni Beachum, Michaela Edenfield, and Jahni Kerr have been major contributors on offense.

I wrote in the season preview to expect the offense to be as good or better in 2025. The biggest questions were inside the circle with Ashstyn Danley, Mimi Gooden, and Makenna Reid returning, plus newcomers like Julia Aspel, Annabelle Widra, and Jazzy Francik.

Danley hasn't been as sharp early, but the others have shown great promise in limited appearances.

The win over Oklahoma State should be a big confidence booster with No. 15 Missouri on deck in the Clearwater Invitational starting Tuesday morning in Clearwater, Florida. The tournament isn't as stacked as in previous years, but should provide ample opportunities for FSU softball to continue to work out roles and build confidence.

The game will air on ESPN2 at 10 a.m. ET.
