Mekhi Wiliams has been committed to FSU for nearly a year, but at times that commitment could best be described as soft. The 4-star defensive back continues to say the right things, but he's definitely keeping his recruitment open and the Tampa-area prospect has a few other schools keeping his interest.

There's already been plenty written on Williams, and his potential interest in Miami, a big problem in itself, but there is another school that he's going to take an extra look at — Wisconsin.

Mike Norvell can't lose top commit to Wisconsin

It's one thing to have Miami going after a commit. FSU-Miami recruiting battles have been going on for decades and won't stop anytime soon. But when a fading program with a lame-duck coach like Wisconsin enters the picture and believes they can flip a top prospect from the Seminoles, it's cause for concern.

This is where Norvell and the staff need to toughen up and close the deal. Not only is Williams a top prospect in a position of need, but he's a target in a part of Florida that the Seminoles need to stay competitive.

Williams has said he'll take official visits to FSU, Wisconsin, Maryland and Miami. The visit to Tallahassee is scheduled for the first weekend in June and then Williams will visit Wisconsin and close out the stretch with Miami. The defensive back says he'll also take an unofficial visit to Wisconsin in late March, which tells me that the Badgers have gotten his attention as well.

The good news is that Williams is an FSU commit and his relationship with safeties coach Evan Coper and the staff is strong. The Seminoles are operating from a position of power and these next several weeks will be key to the staff's ability to convince Williams that Tallahassee is the only place he needs to be.
