FSU RB Roydell Williams should be available in the rivalry matchup versus UF
Florida State's offense has been trial and error throughout the 2024 season. Unfortunately, the coaching staff expected that the running game would be a strength of the team. That has not come to fruition. I knew the offense would take a step back this year, but not the free fall we have seen.
Florida State had to replace running back Trey Benson, who had 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns in his two seasons in Tallahassee. With him navigating to the NFL, the coaching staff thought the Seminoles could acquire talent in the transfer portal and recruiting ranks, such as Roydell Williams, Jaylin Lucas, Kameron Davis, and Micahi Danzy.
Unfortunately, Lucas has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season (he should be back in 2025), and Williams has missed a huge chunk of the year. Florida State ranks 128th in the FBS in rushing yards per game (89.1). The Seminoles have always been able to hang their hat on running the football. However, it has been a struggle this year.
Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell stated in Monday's press conference that senior running back Roydell Williams should be available for the Seminoles' matchup versus Florida. The Seminoles have been rolling out backs such as Lawrance Toafili, Kameron Davis, and Samuel Singleton Jr.
It might just be a performance that includes ten carries and 30 yards. However, it could help the running back room to add another playmaker to the offense. The Seminoles will need everything in their power to defeat the arch-rival Florida Gators.
This would be Williams' fourth game that he has appeared in. I wonder if the former Alabama transfer will be eligible for a redshirt so that he can return for the 2025 campaign. For reference, Lawrance Toafili and Caziah Holmes are seniors. Currently, they only have one commitment in four-star running back Byron Louis in its 2025 recruiting cycle (trending to arch-rival Florida Gators).
