FSU offense SHOULD feast against suspect NC State defense

They should, but will they?

If you watched NC State play against the Miami Hurricanes last week, you’d know the Wolfpack doesn’t have a defense anywhere close to what they had in years past. Miami’s offense isn’t prolific at all, and they scored 30+ points against NC State.

The Wolfpack had two turnovers(one was a pick-6), but the Hurricanes had their way, and that’s something that hasn’t happened much for the Canes. They had 581 total yards on offense and averaged 8.3 yards per play.

NC State enters the FSU game allowing 4.34 yards per rush, 6.36 yards per play, and opposing offenses complete 64 percent of their passes at 8.1 yards per attempt. They have allowed at least 149 rushing yards in five of their games, and three teams have rushed for over 200 yards.

That sounds like Gus Malzahn should be licking his chops. The only problem is that the FSU offense hasn’t traveled to road games. FSU scored 38 points in double OT against Virginia, but turned it over multiple times. They scored 13 points against Stanford and 10 against Clemson.

Thomas Castellanos does look about as close to 100 percent as possible before the ankle injury against Kent State, so that could be a key component that changes the FSU offense. It looked different against Virginia Tech last week. The oddsmakers expect the Friday night game to be a high-scoring affair.

All of the ingredients for FSU to score 30+ points are there. They are relatively healthy across the board on offense, and they are playing a bad defense. Will they finally put it together on the road? The plays have been there for most of the season; it’s the lack of execution and self-inflicted wounds that have hampered FSU the most.
