In a world where college football players care less about the logo and concentrate more on how much money they can make, it’s refreshing to hear from a player who truly wants to play for a school.
That’s the case with transfer portal player Nehemiah Chandler, who was the first portal commit for the Noles when the portal opened in early January.
Chandler has been active on social media talking about how glad he is to be a Nole, and he did his best to recruit other players to join him in Tallahassee. Chandler had his first media session on Wednesday, and it’s easy to see why he’ll be a fan favorite.
Chandler went to high school in Tallahassee, signed with Georgia Tech before transferring to South Alabama. However, when the chance to come to Florida State came about, he wasted no time shutting it down and committing:
Florida State needs a lot of guys with this type mentality going forward
Here’s what Chandler said when asked about coming home to play for his dream school. “I can just hear the Warchant in my head the whole time, that’s all I heard,” Chander mentioned that his family getting to see him play was important, and how he has an underdog mentality.
There’s something about this young man that makes you want to root for him. He seems to know the history of FSU and “DBU,” some of the greats who have played at Florida State. He’s talking about knowing your why and playing for his brothers. That hearkens back to the Jameis Winston days, and FSU running wild all over the ACC and anyone else in their path.
Chandler had a good year at South Alabama last season. It’ll be a different level of competition at FSU, but I’m interested to see how he competes this season.
