The player that FSU should target at quarterback just announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.
Byrum Brown, who threw for 3,000 yards and rushed for 1,000 yards, will leave South Florida after four seasons with the Bulls. He is a graduate student that has one year of eligibility remaining.
USF quarterback Byrum Brown intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he tells ESPN. Brown accounted for 92 career touchdowns – 61 pass/31 rush – which will be the most among returning players in college football in 2026. He's repped by @shawnodare of Rosenhaus Sports. pic.twitter.com/uirQO2f0zY

Obviously, the market for Brown is going to be huge. Auburn would have to be an early favorite because of the connection with Alex Golesh. LSU and Miami are mentioned every time a top-end quarterback makes a transfer portal announcement and Brown's representation with Rosenhaus Sports definitely makes the Hurricanes a possibility.
So FSU needs to throw its hat in the ring, immediately.
FSU's offense with Brown is a real top 10 unit
Yeah yeah, I know that FSU's offense was pretty good in some areas. The 448.9 yards per game was good enough for 17th in the nation and the rushing offense (205.9 yards per game) was in the top 15. But the Seminoles' offense was a declining unit as the season progressed and those gaudy totals against East Texas A&M and Kent State moved further in the rear-view mirror.
FSU averaged 21.8 points per game over the final six games of the season. That includes three games where the Seminoles didn't score more than 13 points. The red-zone offense was 92nd in the country because FSU could not finish drives on offense.
Brown is a finisher. He accounted for 42 touchdowns this past season. As a sophomore, Brown had 37 total touchdowns. He was injured for most of his junior season, so the numbers weren't there, but a fully-healthy Brown finds the end zone.
Imagine this offense with Brown at quarterback? He'll be throwing the ball to Micahi Danzy, Lawayne McCoy, Javian Boggs, maybe Duce Robinson. And the running backs, led by Ousmane Kromah and Sam Singleton, will have much more room to operate with a real dual threat like Brown handling the football.
For years, FSU has tried to "moneyball" the quarterback position. They have opted to grab a DJ Uiagalelei or Tommy Castellanos or one-legged McKenzie Milton off the scrap heap and hope for the best. It's time to get serious about being a football team that wants to compete rather than hoping to field a competitive football team. It starts with the quarterback position. It should start with Byrum Brown.
