FSU is promising changes with the ultimate goal of winning games and giving Mike Norvell as little say in the process as possible. The first step in this plan should be to get a top-flight quarterback for the 2026 season and Byrum Brown needs to be the target.
With Alex Golesh leaving Temple Terrace for the Plains, it's unlikely that Brown will spend his final year of eligibility with USF. This provides an amazing opportunity for the new, improved, restructured leadership in FSU football to give the fans a reason to believe they are actually trying.

Brown would lift up a stagnant FSU program
The FSU quarterback situation is jumbled. I know Tommy Castellanos wants to return, but he was an experiment that sometimes worked, yet didn't result in many wins. Castellanos wasn't bad, but wherever he has gone, mediocre seasons seem to follow him. Thanks for your service, Tommy, but it's time to go in a different direction.
FSU needs a lot of reinforcements next year and Michael Alford is being super tight with the pocketbook, which means the Seminoles are going to need one or two real game changers to make up for the areas that they will lack. Brown, at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, is a man at quarterback. He is physical enough to make the tough plays and tall enough to see over the offensive line.
He also has the physical stature and skill set that can do damage in Gus Malzahn's offense. And if Brown doesn't want to play for Malzahn, get rid of him too. Tell Brown he can bring in his own coach if he wants. Whatever it takes.Â
Brown may be available, but he won't be cheap
There will be a lot of teams looking for a major quarterback prospect like Brown, so FSU will actually have to compete with the big boys to put together a real offer. Obviously, there's a chance Golesh will want him at Auburn. I'm sure the Lane train is interested in him at LSU. And God forbid he ends up going to the Gators or Hurricanes.Â
Competing with top schools for great players is part of being in big boy football, which is something FSU claims to want to do despite Norvell and Darrick Yray's bargain basement approach. There is no better way to prove that the new, improved, restructured plan is serious than to get a legitimate top-end quarterback in an FSU uniform next season. Time to see what Brown can do for the Seminoles.Â
