Florida State football is in a period of struggles where sometimes I even question if they can manage to navigate through it. I am a positive individuals that lives, breathes, and sleeps Seminoles' athletics. It pains me to endure what was transpired in the fifth year of the Mike Norvell tenure.

However, through all of the turmoil, I want to continue battling on fighting the good fight for the university that I am passionate about. Trust me, we are all disappointed and want things to change. I would honestly be concerned if you didn't. The standard is the standard at Florida State.

There are not many bright spots that you can point to about this season other than the special teams aspect of kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and punter Alex Mastromanno. The offensive unit has been the worst in all of college football, and the defense cannot get off the field on third down.

Translation: Recipe for disaster.

I like to turn to positive takeaways of the team. As I said, there are difficulties with listing many positives with an offense that is horrific the majority of the time. However, one bright spot remains in senior wide receiver JaKhi Douglas.

Douglas was thought to be overshadowed during his career with the Seminoles. He has given his all to the university even when it would have been easy to give up and enter the transfer portal when Florida State brought in multiple prospects throughout the years.

Douglas stayed the course and has benefitted from a solid 2024 campaign where he has recorded 25 receptions for 404 yards and three touchdowns. The North Carolina game was gross, and there is no way to sugarcoat it, but the former four-star prospect did have the lone touchdown reception in the contest.

Even when the fan base pretty much thought the game was over (this offense wasn't scoring 21+ points to win the game at that point), Douglas' effort and dedication stood out in the moment.

I hope that Florida State football fans do not forget his effort through this troubling time. Individuals could remember defensive end Jeremiah Johnson II's play during the forgettable 2021 campaign. I hope that Douglas' play inspires others from a positive standpoint.
