FSU football: Why the best unit in the entire Miami game belongs to FSU

One of the narratives going into the Miami/FSU showdown on Saturday night is the FSU offense and the Miami defense. On paper, the Noles have the best offense in the ACC, and Miami has the best defense.

However, the FSU offense has had a much more difficult challenge than the Miami defense up to this point. FSU faced an Alabama defense that’s just as, or even more talented overall than Miami.

The best offense Miami’s defense faced was Notre Dame in the season opener, which had a new quarterback playing on the road. The Fighting Irish scored 24 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, even with two turnovers.

FSU averaged 7.65 yards per play against the Alabama defense and had 230 rushing yards, averaging 4.7 yards per rush and 10.9 yards per pass. They scored 31 points and could have scored again if they hadn’t decided to run the clock out at the end of the game.

Everyone is talking about Miami’s offense and how it matches up against the FSU defense. However, we’ve already pointed out that Miami’s offense isn’t special, and they haven’t scored 30 points against a Power Four team yet this season.

FSU’s defense has some weaknesses, but don’t expect Miami to score at will. FSU’s defense has already faced two offenses that are better than Miami’s. Miami’s defense hasn’t faced anything like FSU’s offense and the playmakers they have.

FSU can run the ball traditionally, involve Castellanos, and attack through the air with explosive plays.

Folks focusing on the Miami pass rush are focusing on the wrong thing, because FSU is going to run the ball with success. They probably won’t have to throw the ball 30+ times(they only threw it 14 times against Alabama), unless Miami can stop their rushing attack, and that’s doubtful.

If the FSU offense that’s shown up every week thus far shows up, it’s going to be a long night for the Canes.
