FSU football coaches did a great job in the Early Winter Transfer Portal window addressing several roster needs. They've added two new players in the first week of this year and only have a few more holes to fill.
A couple of those holes remain at the wide receiver position. FSU made big waves by adding former five-star and FSU legacy Duce Robinson last month. However, FSU continues to value experience and production at wide receiver because they are incredibly young at the position going into 2025.
They brought in a talented crop of high school receivers in the 2024 recruiting class, but it generally takes a year or two before most high school players begin to produce at the position unless they are unicorns like Jeremiah Smith at Ohio State.
FSU has looked at several receivers on campus and continues to send out new offers. Here's a list of the remaining guys they've shown interest in who have not committed elsewhere:
- Kaedin Robinson: Leading receiver at Appalachian State the past two years, originally signed with Gus Malzahn at UCF in 2021.
- Traylon Ray: Productive at WVU before a bad injury ended his season last year, Tallahassee native
- Squirrel White: Productive at Tennessee before injuries
FSU clearly wants at least one more transfer receiver. Would they take two of these guys? Robinson and White only have one year of eligibility remaining, and Ray has two years. The latter is coming off a bad injury, and I don't know what his prognosis is for 2025.
Robinson is 6'2" and 200 pounds. Ray is 6'1" and 195 pounds, and White is 5'10" and 165 pounds. All of them would improve the WR room in different ways and help complement Duce Robinson. FSU classes start on Monday, January 6th, with the last day to add without an Academic Dean's permission on Thursday, January 9th. I expect to hear something from these guys sooner than later.
