FSU football recruiting: 4-star WR CJ Wiley de-commits from Florida State
Florida State football has been horrendous this year, where they have a 1-7 record with losses to Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, SMU, Clemson, Duke, and Miami. The Seminoles have been the laughing stock of the entire college football landscape.
The program is heading down a downward spiral in head football coach Mike Norvell's fifth season in Tallahassee. Florida State was projected to have a 9.5 over/under win total, according to oddsmakers this preseason. However, the under-total cashed in just the third game.
It has been disappointing on all fronts because the coaching staff's recruiting efforts have taken a hit as well since they have nothing to sell other than the fact that 2025 is a new season.
The Seminoles have seen pieces such as four-star wide receiver Malik Clark, four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon, four-star defensive end Javion Hilson, and four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles de-commit in recent weeks.
When it rains, it pours in Tallahassee, I guess, as on Sunday afternoon, it was announced that four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley from Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, backed off his pledge with the program.
It was interesting that Wiley stayed committed to the Seminoles for this long with the recent struggles. The home-state Georgia Bulldogs have been pushing for his services for quite a long time. However, he had remained pledged to the Seminoles.
It was a shock that Wiley committed to Florida State in the first place over Georgia. He took a visit to Texas A&M this past weekend as they defeated the LSU Tigers. As a result, Georgia and Texas A&M should be the two teams to watch moving forward.
Unfortunately, this means that wide receivers coach Ron Dugans has lost all three of the blue chips that he picked up over the summer and now has none committed (sounds like the 2022 cycle). I am not suggesting the pitchforks, but could this mean that Dugans could be on his way out at the end of the 2024 season?
Regardless, the wide receiver position has been horrific this season, where the Seminoles' offense is considered the worst unit in all of college football. The only good news is that four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs (UCF commit) is expected to officially visit Florida State next weekend when they take on North Carolina.
