FSU football one step closer to flipping another blue-chip quarterback from Oklahoma

Time will tell!

In late March, I wrote about how FSU was working to flip blue-chip quarterback Jaden O'Neal and how it would be the second straight recruiting cycle they flipped a blue-chip quarterback from the Oklahoma Sooners.

FSU flipped former Oklahoma commit Kevin Sperry late in the 2025 recruiting cycle after Trammell Jones de-committed.

The first step was getting O'Neal to visit campus a couple of weeks ago to observe practice. He came to visit and has reportedly set up an official visit with the Noles for the weekend of June 15-17, according to Noles247.

O'Neal remains committed to Oklahoma, and other schools are looking to flip him. However, FSU is the only school he visited recently, and he never made it to Auburn like the original plan was after recently visiting FSU.

Quarterback recruiting is different than other positions, as they don't typically take official visits elsewhere while committed. I wrote how Oklahoma has a new offensive coordinator who likes another blue-chip quarterback in Bowe Bentley. Bentley was a top target for FSU before he eliminated them from his top three, with Oklahoma considered the favorite.

FSU remains in the mix for blue-chip quarterback Landon Duckworth, but if they can't get him on campus soon, that ship has likely sailed, although he has a June official visit set for FSU. Ole Miss appears to be the main competition in that recruitment.

O'Neal is no slouch, ranked as the No. 11 composite QB nationally and the No. 172 player overall. He is a polished passer with some mobility but is no Jordan Travis with his legs. He's 6'3" and 200 pounds and has already shined on the Elite 11 Regional scene.

We'll see if O'Neal coordinates any other official visits, but if not, the writing could be on the wall for another Oklahoma QB blue-chip flip.
