BOOM! 4-star QB Kevin Sperry commits to Florida State
Florida State's 2024 season has been a disaster, with a 1-9 record. Head football coach Mike Norvell had high expectations for this year, where he expected the Seminoles to win a conference championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
With the disappointments, Florida State's recruiting class has taken a hit in a negative where four-star wide receivers CJ Wiley, Malik Clark, and Daylan McCutcheon, as well as four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles and four-star defensive end Javion Hilson ended up going elsewhere.
The downward trajectory did not end there as four-star running back Byron Louis visited arch-rival Florida, and four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn was predicted to flip to South Carolina. Then, on Thursday afternoon, four-star quarterback target Carter Smith had a crystal ball prediction to Wisconsin.
Smith was expected to officially visit Florida State on November 29th for the rivalry matchup versus Florida. He was originally expected to commit to the Seminoles. However, after his recent visit to the Badgers, it seems that he is trending there.
Florida State got a bombshell on Thursday night as Class of 2025 four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry from Guyer High School in Denton, Texas committed to the Seminoles.
This pickup comes from four-star quarterback Carter Smith, who was trending away from the Seminoles. It seems like Norvell had a plan in place for the Smith backup. Seminole fans were starting to worry about Florida State's recruiting efforts at the quarterback position, with only Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek, and Trever Jackson being guaranteed on the roster for 2025.
Sperry completed 131 of his 191 passes for 2,564 yards and 31 touchdowns with only four interceptions in 2023. The talented signal-caller had not visited Tallahassee since December 2022. It was surprising for me to see that he committed to the university.
Sperry likely won't solve the quarterback dilemma in 2025, but he does bring talent to the room.
