A new era?

FSU football freshman quarterback Luke Kromenhoek made the most of his first career start against Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon. He led the Noles to their second win this season and played the entire game until Brock Glenn came in for the final offensive possession.

The two players had been alternating opportunities in recent games, but there's been a clear shift toward Kromenhoek as the guy going forward. Mike Norvell cleared all assumptions by listing Kromenhoek as the clear starter against the rival Florida Gators for the regular season finale.

It makes sense. Kromenhoek had better practices last week, earned the start against Charleston Southern, and played well. He's the younger of the two and has already burned his redshirt, so it's all about getting the reps to see what they have with him as the quarterback moving forward.
It also gives a nod to the talented receivers and tight ends who signed with Kromenhoek in the 2024 recruiting cycle. It'll be an easier pitch to keep them all together for next year.

Kromenhoek's performance against Florida will likely determine if FSU takes a quarterback in the transfer portal. Brock Glenn likely enters the transfer portal since he's already passed by a younger guy.

If Kromenhoek doesn't perform well against Florida, it's an easier sell to have him potentially redshirt next year and pursue a quarterback from the portal. Either way, it helps provide a clear direction for the most important position on the field. Kromenhoek will go toe-to-toe against another talented quarterback, Florida's DJ Lagway.

The two ranked among the top five quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting cycle and could be the beginning of a 3-4 budding rivalry between the two, who were roommates at the Elite 11 competition last year.
